First season
New families at Forney High School
A practical guide to getting started with the school wrestling team, finding confirmed information and using the booster club’s parent resources.
School team and booster club
The Forney High School Jackrabbits wrestling team is a school program in Forney, Texas. Coaches and the school confirm athlete eligibility, participation requirements and practice arrangements. This parent-run booster club provides family resources and team support.
For joining or wrestling questions, contact the coaching staff. For official school contacts, use the school website or district athletics page. For booster membership, meal plans or volunteering, contact the club.
Start here
- Review the pre-season checklist. Confirm school forms and deadlines with the coach. Checklist ticks do not submit forms or clear an athlete to participate.
- Check the schedule for posted meets and events. Confirm TBA times, practice details and any changes with the coach.
- Open the Parent Portal to create your account, join the booster club, buy a meal plan and choose optional volunteer shifts or text updates. You can register before a wrestler is linked. The club links wrestlers to households when the roster is ready; you can then review your wrestler’s publication permissions.
Joining the school team, accessing the Parent Portal and joining the booster club are separate. Booster membership is optional and does not determine who wrestles.
What to buy, and when
Ask the coach which shoes and headgear are required and what uniforms or loaner gear the program provides before buying. Confirm sizing, costs and any assistance options first.
Weigh-ins
Athletes weigh in before competing to confirm they are in their weight class. It is routine and quick. ⚠️ Weight management for teenagers is coach-led and health-first — if anything about it ever worries you, talk to the coach, and talk to us.
What a meet day is actually like
Longer than you expect. A dual meet is an evening; a tournament is most of a Saturday and your wrestler may have long gaps between matches. Bring a chair, food and something to do. Gyms are hot. You will not know when your kid is up until shortly before they are up — that is normal.
How you can help without knowing anything about wrestling
Most volunteering is not technical: the gate, the grill, the concessions table, keeping the scorebook. Check each posted shift for its hours and duties. It is also a way to meet the other families, which in a first-year program matters more than usual.
